Mounjaro is an injectable medicine and contains the active ingredient tirzepatide and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults in addition to diet and exercise.
Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which your body doesn’t produce enough insulin, and the insulin your body produces doesn’t work as well as it should.
When this happens, blood sugar (glucose) rises. Effective diabetes treatment with effective blood sugar control protects you from the long-term consequences of diabetes.
It is important to continue the diet and physical activity prescribed for you by your doctor, pharmacist or specialized medical staff.
Mounjaro is also used in combination with diet and exercise to achieve weight loss and support weight maintenance in adults who have
- a BMI of 30 kg/m² or more (obesity) or
- a BMI equal to or greater than 27 kg/m² but less than 30 kg/m² (overweight) and weight-related problems (such as prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, altered blood lipid values, breathing problems during sleep – also called obstructive sleep apnea – or cardio-respiratory diseases).
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of your weight in relation to your height.
Mounjaro should not be used if you are allergic to the active ingredient tirzepatide or to any of the excipients contained in this medicine (see “What does Mounjaro contain?”).
